A Cheerful Spirit

Yesterday it was 'SIZDEBEDAR', the 13th day of The Persian New Year. We have this tradition that on Sizdebedar Iranians go to the nature with their family n friends n enjoy themselves together n have a picnic.

I went with my family out. It was really interesting. Even in the sides of freeways people were sitting in the grass. There were colorful tents almost every were which were put up by people celebrating the day.
We went some where in the northwest of Tehran called Farahzad. We went to a very big garden of mulberries n found a good place n spread our carpet n sat.
There were full of people. Mostly they were groups of families n friend each other. We ourselves were about 20 people consisting of some families n friend.

We spoke with each other, congratulated the new year to whom we haven’t seen after Nowruz, went walking through the beautiful trees n grass, played cards(n I lost the game!) ,played Badminton(that I won).built a small fire. Some smoked Ghalyun (an instrument to smoke tobacco).we had a great lunch with different foods since each family had brought different dishes.

People around us also were playing games (like Zuu, Volleyball, Vasati, Leapfrog),
Enjoying themselves n dancing. Some had made swings by tying ropes to the trees and were riding on them. They were happy like us. A car played the music with her high quality stereo n every people enjoyed it. Some girls n boys danced, I did a little too.

The weather was gorgeous n I really enjoyed it. I regretted why I hadn’t attended the festival since a few years ago.

I don’t say it was something like a legend however it was really very nice.

My mother in the evening cooked Ash-reshte (a delicious kind of potage). It was quite delicious n gave us a good feeling as the weather had turned a little cold n a hot food was great. Everyone praised the food.
At last we tied some grasses together, collected the garbage to take it out from nature n returned home.

Every where was green n every body enjoyed this beauty.
It was a great day.
in Persian we say: ‘jatun khali’ or ‘jatun sabz’ which means: if u were with us it would be great.
